Mike spent his whole career trying to make communications more effective. He started out at BMP DDB, the agency that invented Account Planning. In 2007, he moved to New York, to start a strategic planning department for Tribal DDB in North America, applying planning practices to digital communications. Two years later, he went out to Mumbai, to head up the planning department for the DDB group in India. He returned to the UK to work for Tesco's advertising agency, before doing an MBA at Imperial College, London.

"I've learnt in my travels is that anyone can have an opinion, but the best decisions are driven by data. I decided to set up Lumen because I was frustrated by the lack of clarity that marketers often face when they have to take important decisions. I believe that we can bring the right data at the right time to help clients make the right choices about their communications."

Matt’s specialisms are in psychology, economics, finance and project management.  Matt manages Lumen’s grant-funded research projects, having previously worked at the highest levels of Government at HM Treasury where he directly advised the Chancellor and other ministers on innovative policy transformation projects with billions of pounds of taxpayer revenue at stake.  He also worked as a senior advisor and project manager for major blue-chip clients at Ernst & Young before joining Lumen. 

Matt graduated from Balliol College, Oxford in Experimental Psychology, specialising in cognitive processing and attention, neuropsychology and the nature of consciousness.  With a deep interest in social science he also has a conversion degree and Masters degree in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London.

David began his career alongside Mike in BMP DDB’s strategic planning department, specialising in the application of econometric techniques to improve marketing effectiveness. After 5 years at DDB, he completed a research masters in philosophy and economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

On returning to London he worked as a Principal Consultant at Data2Decisions, a specialist marketing effectiveness consultancy, working with British Gas, The Guardian and Mondeléz. David has been a frequent contributor to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising respected Effectiveness Awards, as the author of 6 award winning cases, including a Grand Prix and the prize for Dedication to Effectiveness.

Dr Navid Hajimirza obtained his PhD in computer vision from the Department of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London and his MSc. in Mechatronics from King's College. He has been involved in numerous European funded research projects as researcher/project manager including PetaMedia, PAPAYRUS, 3D-Life, REVERIE and CUBRIK. Navid has developed new technologies in the fields of human-computer interaction, and computer vision and published over 20 scientific papers and reports in various international conferences, journals and projects. His research in the fields of eye tracking and visual cognition has become a benchmark that received numerous citations from other publications.

While studying for his Psychology degree, Theo became increasingly interested in the difference in the validity of declarative and implicit data. In pursuit of less common behavioural research methodologies, he specialised in eye-tracking research. His thesis used eye tracking to examine brand familiarity on Point of Purchase behaviour Theo now uses his expertise to ensure the smooth running of projects from start to finish ensuring clients get the most out of their projects with Lumen.

Andrew Nappin

Andrew is a technology veteran and software architect with over 15 years in the online tech space - specific expertise in contextual online advertising systems and interactive bidding environments and has worked in diverse web software environments.

Andrew was the brain behind Espotting's software architecture across Europe over a period of more than 6 years, was an original founder of Adjug and built all of the technology used by Adjug. He designed one of the worlds first Real Time Bidding systems and Europe's first pay-per-click syndication platform delivering over a 100 million searches per day and £100 million in revenue annually and being used in more than eight countries with multi-currency/multi-language capabilities.

Andrew has also spent time with multiple start up tech companies to help them scale into medium size businesses. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Wales.

Amelia is a Research Executive, and holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Nottingham. During her studies she completed a marketing internship with Vodafone, that focused on using eye tracking to further understand consumer behaviour. Since then she has transferred both her psychology and marketing learnings to help organise, run and report fieldwork findings at Lumen.

Luke graduated with a BEng in Software Engineering from the University of Edinburgh.

He spent 2 years developing interactive geospatial web applications for the sustainable fuel sector before moving to Lumen where he develops solutions to collect and process eye tracking data.

Annabel is a Data Analyst, and holds a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics. Annabel has over 4 years’ experience working as an Economic Consultant in London for Ernst & Young (EY) and London Economics, where she specialised in economic impact assessments and economic evaluations. She has since transferred her analytical skills to eye-tracking at Lumen.
