Privacy Policy for Lumen Research’s newsletter mailing list

We love data at Lumen.  Our passion is using quantitative data about what gets attention to improve the creative design and media placement of marketing messages.  We are, first and foremost, a data company. So processing data lawfully, transparently, fairly, and securely is extremely important to us.  

As part of our commitment to good data handling practices, we have written this privacy policy as a Q&A to explain any questions you may have about how we handle the data we hold about individuals who subscribe to our newsletter.  When we use this data we (that is, more formally, Lumen Research Ltd) act as the ‘data controller’ of that data and are responsible for handling it properly.  If you have any other questions that are not addressed here please do contact us: our contact details are at the end.   

Why am I on your newsletter mailing list? What is your legal basis for emailing me?

Our policy is to only add people to our newsletter mailing list who have demonstrated an active interest in our company and what we do.  This means, for example, that your personal details may be added to our mailing list in one of the following circumstances:

·       You actively subscribe to our newsletter

·       You contact us through the ‘Contact us’ form on our website

·       You email us directly with a query about our services

·       You have a meeting with one of our employees and give us your business card

Our legal basis for emailing you is founded on the principle of ‘legitimate interest’: that we have a legitimate commercial interest in emailing you to keep you informed about our services and the outputs of our research.  We believe that you will not find this use of your data intrusive or objectionable; that you would reasonably expect this use of your data; and that this use of your data will not cause you any harm.  In making this judgement we are also taking into consideration the interest you will have expressed in our company and the fact that you can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time. 

What data do we hold?

Our mailing list will contain some or all of the following data about you: email address, first name, last name, job title, organisation, address, organisation address, organisation city, organisation postcode, full address, source, data added date, last changed date.

What do we use your data for?

We hold your personal data in our mailing list for the purpose of communicating with you, emailing you our newsletter(s) and for our internal purposes (such as auditing, data analysis, and research to improve and develop our products, services, content, advertising, and communications).

How long do we keep your data?

We will keep your data so that we can keep sending you our newsletter until such time as you choose to unsubscribe from our mailing list.

Who holds the data? Is it shared with other organisations?

The data is held by Lumen Research Ltd, a company registered in England, company number 8682432. Our registered office is at Unit 215, 22 Highbury Grove, London N5 2EF. Our data protection registration reference is ZA130772.

We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice. We will never sell your data to any other organisation.

What rights do I have regarding the processing of my personal data?

If you want to view, amend or delete your personal data you have the right to do this at any time.  You will always have the right to rectify the information you have given us, the right to be forgotten or erased from our database, you can ask for your data to be given to you at your request in a portable format and you can ask for your data to stop being processed at any time.  Please simply email us at and we will respond to your request.
